Police at Cantonment intercepts Weapon hidden in Papaye labelled Fast Food for inmate

The vigilance of a Police Officer on duty foiled an attempt to smuggle a firearm and ammunition into Cantonment Cell by lady on Sunday 11 July, 2021 around 4:45pm at the Cantonment Police Station.

Reports say the lady brought the food to one Asquo Mbuotidem Edem who was arrested by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Ghana Police service for his involvement in several robberies in the country.

The Regional Police Command PRO, DSP Efia Tenge confirming the incident said a 23-year-old lady with Nigerian accent came to the charge office with two packs of Papaye labeled fast food to be served on a robbery remand prisoner in cells.

“When the food was carefully inspected by the duty officer on duty, a locally manufactured pistol with one AA Cartridge was found concealed in one of the packs with the food covering it” DSP Tenge said.

She said unfortunately the Lady managed to flee the scene.

Strenuous efforts are underway to trace and arrest the lady.

WHEN THE FOOD WAS CAREFULLY INSPECTED BY THE DUTY OFFICER ON DUTY, A LOCALLY MANUFACTURED PISTOL WITH ONE AA CARTRIDGE WAS FOUND CONCEALED IN ONE OF THE PACKS WITH THE FOOD COVERING IT.
UNFORTUNATE THE LADY MANAGED TO FLEE THE SCENE. STRENUOUS EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAY TO TRACE AND ARREST THE LADY.
