Police deny ACP Agordzo bail despite court ruling – Brother laments
High-ranking police officer ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo charged with treason felony is still in police custody despite a court ruling granting him bail.
His brother Cephas Agordzo explained the police has refused to send the suspect to court to sign bail papers.
It has been more than 48 hours after an Accra High Court admitted Dr Agordzo to a self recognizance bail of 500,000 cedis.
According to the terms of the bail, he is expected to report to the Inspector General of Police and the Director of BNI twice every week for the next three months.
But beyond asking him to deposit his passport, the police have not made any move to comply with the court ruling, his brother complained in an interview on JoyNews monitored by theghanareport.com.
“The whole of today, they refused to take him to the court to sign for bail” he lamented, decrying the conduct of the police.
“It is no more prosecution, it is persecution,” he said.
Cephas Agordzor said the police have refused to answer calls from his brother’s legal counsel to explain their actions.
His brother who is accused of aiding in a coup plot is “calm”, he said because “he knows he is innocent.”
Benjamin Agordzo has been accused of aiding persons in an alleged coup plot.
This is not the first time the security services are holding an accused person after a court had granted.
