Police interdicts Inspector who handcuffed Man over Ghc2

A police officer who owns a bar in Sampa, Bono Region, allegedly handcuffed a customer for allegedly owing him two cedis.

 

The Police administration has interdicted Inspector Kennedy Mantey Ampofo of Sampa District Police Command for allegedly handcuffing one Frank Kofi Adu and failing to take him through due process.

A release signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs at the Police Command in the Brong Ahafo Region, DSP Patrick Okai Kodjoe said the police inspector has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPBB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter.

It would be recalled that recent media reports suggested that a police officer operating a drinking bar allegedly handcuffed a customer over Ghc2 debt

A police officer who owns a bar in Sampa, Bono Region, allegedly handcuffed a customer for allegedly owing him two cedis.

The customer recounting his ordeal stated that he and another friend purchased Ghc4 worth of alcohol from the bar but were only able to pay Ghc2.

It had been left with Ghc2, so he begged the officer to let him go home and bring him his money.

The officer, however, allegedly handcuffed him over the Ghc2.

The victim, Kofi Frank, stated that after returning home and bringing the money in handcuffs, he was met with the officer’s absence.
He claimed that all attempts to contact him had been futile.

According to him, he went to the police station to have the cuffs removed, but to no avail.
The man who appeared to be in pain stated that his hands were swollen and that he was in excruciating pain.
