Though investigators could not name the suspects, it could not also confirm the retrieval of two of the laptops as it has been widely reported.

The incident was reported to the Airport District Police Command on Monday, December 30, 2019 after a Supervising Registration Officer detected that the three devices could not be traced at about 5:30 am when he arrived at the said registration center.

Officers who will not go public on the matter have given assurances of working to retrieve all the devices.

The Supervising Registration Officer and one other person have also been questioned on the matter.

Last year, 20-year-old Prince Kwadwo Boakye, was sentenced to four years in jail by a court at Nsuta in the Ashanti Region for stealing an HP Laptop computer used for the registration exercise.

The Agona Secondary Technical School student was picked up by the police after an official complaint was lodged at the Agona District Command on December 16, 2019.

He was put before the court after investigators retrieved the device from his room after a search.

He was found guilty of a charge of stealing and convicted by the court.

The Ghana Card registration exercise in the Ashanti Region is currently being done in 833 registration centers.
