The Chief Executive Officer of Golden City Estate Group of Companies, Derrick Obeng Mensah, has stated that politics is a tool for national development and not for fashion as some politicians now want us to believe.
Obeng Mensah in an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh observed that most politicians today see politics as fashion and wealth making platforms where they can enrich themselves fast. They declare their political intentions at the expense of the ordinary tax payer who struggle to even provide two square meal to his family.
He questioned why most politicians especially Members of Parliament often abandon their Constituencies immediately after elections. “Most of them don’t even visit the Constituency to even listen to the plight of the people who voted for them”. Citing his home Constituency for example, he said,
“I don’t even remember the last time our MP visited this Constituency to either educate us on happenings in government or even initiate a single project to better the lives of the people of Brekum West.
“I can tell you on authority that Brekum West has not seen any developmental projects for about two decades now, because of unnecessary arguments between the Municipal chief executive and that of the MP over who is doing this and who has done that and it is causing this Constituency in so many ways,” he stated.
The old boy of Brekum Methodist School emphasized that it is a privilege given to Members of Parliament to represent their people but not to represent themselves and so they must work towards the improvement of the lives of the ordinary people.
He urged the youth to be self reliant to get themselves busy by taking advantage of government policies such as planting for food and jobs, planting for export and rural development as well as the newly innovative policy rearing for food and jobs to avert the situation where politicians only use them for vigilantism activities with outrageous promises which can never be fulfilled.
