President Akufo-Addo gives NIA boss two-year contract extension as he turns 60 today

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved a  recommendation by the Board of the National Identification Authority to extend the contract of the Chief Executive Secretary of the Authority, Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, ABC News can report.

Prof Attafuah has, thus, been given a two-year contract extension to steer the affairs of the NIA from Monday, November 11, 2019, to November 10, 2021, a memo signed by the head of administration and human resources, Mr. W.K. Baffoe-Mensah to all NIA staff indicated.

Prof Attafuah, who attains the retirement age of 60 on Saturday, November 9, 2019, was first appointed by President Akufo-Addo on January 27, 2019.

The criminologist was given the task to ensure that the NIA effectively delivered on its mandate of, among other things, registering all Ghanaians across the country and issuing them with national identification cards.

He was the first Executive Secretary of the NIA under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration.

Under his leadership, the NIA successfully began the registration of Ghanaians as mandated, with thousands of Ghanaians already issued with cards.

In September this year, the Authority announced that it has registered 2,902,526 eligible Ghanaians for the Ghana Card in the Greater Accra, Volta and Oti regions since the registration started on June 4, last year.

The NIA, last week, completed the registration exercise in the Northern, Savannah and North East Regions where thousands of citizens enrolled onto the system.
