President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will be the Special guest of honor at this year’s Agbamevorza (Kente festival) of the people of Agotime Kpetoe in the Volta Region. Also expected to be grace the occasion would be the current US Ambassador to Ghana, Ministers of State as well as a high powered delegation from the diaspora.
The Chairperson for the 2018 Agbamevorza Committee, Eddie Akotey who announced this during the media launch of the event in Kpetoe on Saturday, also assured the public that this year’s festival will come off without any hitches.
He explained what necessitated the cancellation of the durbar in 2017.
“Last year, we had to call off the festival in the interest of peace and security in our land. We don’t regret that action we took, but this year we have put in measures to curb such occurrences.
“We have separated the chiefs from the festival all completely. This year, any chief that will be coming to the festival, would come on an invitation from the Planning Committee. In effect, if the Planning Committee does not give you an invitation to participate in our program, you’ll not be welcomed at our program,” he stated.
This year’s Agbamevorza (Kente festival) is expected to start on Sunday October 14 to October 21. The festival is expected to draw people from in and out of Kpetoe, the African continent and Europe.
The highlights of the festival would include firing of musketry, a pageantry, health walk and medical outreach, Godigbe (cultural exhibition of the exodus of the people of Agotime from Lekpo), quiz competition, cleaning exercise, and a grand durbar which is expected to climax the events on Saturday October 20.
