President cuts sod tomorrow- Construction of 120 affordable housing units in Bolgatanga

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will tomorrow, Friday, November 29, 2019 cut sod for the construction of 120 affordable housing units in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga, ABC News can report.

The project, named Rock Estates to reflect the Rocky nature of the environment, is situated in Pusunamungu, about 15 minutes drive from Pwalugu.

The project, when completed, would consist of 4 bedrooms, 3 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms detached and semi-detached housing units.

This would be the second time the President has cut the sod for a housing project by the rejuvenated State Housing Company under the current management. The first project took-off last year in Kumasi where President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the J. A. Kufuor Estate.

ABC News has learned that work is progressing steadily on the project.

The Rock Estates Project is expected to create more than 3,000 job opportunities for residents in Bolgatanga and its surrounding communities.

The move is line with the government’s agenda to bridge the about two million housing deficit by providing affordable housing for Ghanaians.

In August this year, the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia cut the sod for the construction of 100,000 affordable housing units across the country.

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) solely funded project, to cost US$5.3 billion dollars, is scheduled to be completed between five and eight years.

Estimated to generate 100,000 direct and indirect jobs over the period, the starting price of a unit is US$27,500 to be paid by a mortgage over a 30-year duration.
