The executives of the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has paid a courtesy call on the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Accra to enhance their working collaboration.
Led by the President, Mr. Andrew Edwin Arthur, the six-member PRINPAG delegation had fruitful discussions with the Press Attaché, Naomi A. Mattos ably supported by Zainab Mahama of the Public Affairs Section.
Receiving the delegation, Ms. Mattos expressed her joy for the rekindling of the three decades of working collaboration between the Public Affairs Section and PRINPAG. She stated that Ghana is her first working station in West Africa.
Taking their turns in the deliberations, the PRINPAG Executives recalled the history of the Association and the role the Founding Members played to usher Ghana into the 4th Republican-Democratic dispensation. They expressed the desire of the new Executives to continue the good works of their forebears, who were principally political agitators, human rights advocates and professional journalists with no business background as pertains in the advanced democracies.
Since the year 2020 is an election year, PRINPAG appealed to the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy to give the necessary support to the Association to organize training workshop on Election Reporting for Journalists in all the sixteen Regions so as to offer improved reportage on the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in December 2020.
Also, the PRINPAG Executives disclosed that, they would create a PRINPAG ELECTION Bureau in Consultation and Collaboration with the Electoral Commission and the Ministry of Information, to organize nationwide fora for all Political Parties to sell their Manifestos sector-by-sector to the Media and the Electorates. This will allow the voters to make informed choices during the elections.
The PRINPAG delegation included Mr. David Tamakloe, Vice-President; Mr. Emmanuel Opare Djan, Organizing Secretary; Mr. Elorm Desewu, Assistant Secretary; Mr. Douglas Ligay, Treasurer and Kenteman Nii-Laryea Sowah, Executive Secretary.
The U.S Embassy in the past years has offered funding support to PRINPAG Members in Computer Literacy in the year 2000 and a Training Workshop on “How to write Business Plans” amongst several other Programs.
