PRINPAG urges members to uphold professionalism ahead of Dec. 7 polls

As Ghana prepares for its pivotal 2024 General Elections this weekend, the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has called on its members to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their reportage.

In a statement issued by PRINPAG’s National Leadership and signed by Executive Secretary Jeorge Wilson Kingson, the Association emphasized the crucial role the media plays in ensuring credible, peaceful, and transparent elections.

The statement highlighted the media’s responsibility to inform the public accurately and fairly. PRINPAG urged its members to adhere to the highest standards of journalism, including verifying facts before publication and avoiding sensationalism or unverified claims that could incite tension.
“Journalists must prioritize peace and national cohesion by avoiding content that may exacerbate divisions or undermine stability,” the statement read.
PRINPAG outlined several key directives for its members, including:

PRINPAG reiterated its dedication to supporting free, fair, and credible elections in Ghana, cautioning that members found breaching ethical guidelines would face sanctions.
“We commend our members for their diligent efforts so far.
Let us continue to report responsibly, keeping Ghana’s peace and democracy as our top priority,” said Kingson.
The Association assured members that its secretariat would remain operational throughout the election period to provide administrative support and assistance.
PRINPAG urged the media fraternity to rise to the occasion, contributing positively to the nation’s democratic success.
