The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, has reminded the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that propaganda does not always work in the realm of governance.

According to him, what matters most in governance is achieving tangible results, a principle acknowledged by all governance experts.

Speaking on The Citizen’s Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, who is also the Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency in the Bono Region, stressed that governance is driven by results, not propaganda.

He criticised the NPP for relying heavily on propaganda over the past eight years without delivering concrete outcomes for the people.

“Governance is about delivering results for the governed to see,” he asserted.

He accused the NPP of manipulating figures under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative to present a false image of success to the public.

Mr Ahmed Ibrahim specifically accused former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, of inflating PFJ figures to boost his ambitions of becoming the NPP’s flagbearer.

He questioned the former minister’s claims that Ghana is food-sufficient, pointing out the inconsistency with the country’s decision to ban the export of cereals to neighbouring countries.

“This is what happens when you continue to rely on propaganda in governance,” he said.

He commended the current Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong for disbanding his predecessor’s propaganda unit at the Ministry, which was responsible for publishing misleading data on food sufficiency.

Mr Ahmed Ibrahim emphasised that Ghana’s challenges stem from a lack of honesty among its leaders.

“Ghana often finds itself at these crossroads because leadership fails to be truthful in dealing with the electorate,” he concluded
