PW Mining Workers Provide Mechanized Borehole for Bibiani Senior High School

The initiative, undertaken through voluntary contributions from PW Mining Workers, was officially unveiled at a ceremony held on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024, at the school premises. Mr. Eric Okwan, the Production Manager of Asante Gold Bibiani Ltd, highlighted the significance of the borehole in eliminating the risks associated with students crossing a busy road to fetch water.

PW Mining Workers, in collaboration with Asante Gold Bibiani Ltd, have constructed a mechanized borehole at Bibiani Senior High School, significantly enhancing safety by eliminating the need for students to cross a busy road to fetch water, and improving access to clean drinking water.

The initiative, undertaken through voluntary contributions from PW Mining Workers, was officially unveiled at a ceremony held on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024, at the school premises. Mr. Eric Okwan, the Production Manager of Asante Gold Bibiani Ltd, highlighted the significance of the borehole in eliminating the risks associated with students crossing a busy road to fetch water. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the facility to ensure its longevity, and pledged ongoing support from Asante Gold, instilling hope for the future development of the school.

Mr. George Baidooh, the Headmaster of Bibiani Senior High School, expressed profound gratitude to the mining company for their generosity. He underscored the borehole’s critical role in fostering a healthier and more conducive learning environment for the school’s 2,589 students, of which 1,728 are boarders, and 861 are day students. Mr. Baidooh also praised the Parents’ Association and alumni, particularly [specific groups or individuals], for their support and highlighted the school’s exceptional academic performance in the 2023 WASSCE, where 803 out of 804 students achieved grades A1-C6, representing a 99% pass rate.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including Mr. Isaac Kofi Mensah, Community Relations Officer of Asante Gold; Mr. Franklin Owusu, Project Manager of Asante Gold; Mrs. Convery, Health and Safety representative from PW; Mr. Leadrie Van Rooney, Project Engineer from PW; Mr. Stephen Acheampong, Production Manager from PW; Mr. Baffour Awuah, Training Coordinator from PW; Mr. E. M. Fletcher, Assistant Headmaster, Administration; Ms Ruth Andoh, Assistant Headmistress, Domestic; and students from Bibiani Senior High School and PW Mining Workers.

Among the requests made during the ceremony were road tarring, safety training, provision of IBC tanks, establishment of a modern library, and provision of desks, underscoring the ongoing needs and aspirations of the school community. These needs are crucial for the school’s continued growth and development, and we are hopeful that with the support of our stakeholders, we can turn these aspirations into reality.
