One of Asia’s leading private universities, Quest International University (QIU), based in Perak, Malaysia and a subsidiary of the QI Group, the holding Group for QNET and other subsidiaries, is rolling out an educational module that carefully blends academic and theoretical knowledge with practical industry experience. This is an impressive approach to education, a much-needed panacea to the usual complaint by industry about university graduates who are not ready for the workplace.

Established under the Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 in Malaysia, QI University currently has nearly 2,000 students from almost 50 countries including those from Ghana, Zimbabwe, and other African countries, undergoing excellent blended learning.

When the Editor of Ghananewsonline.com.gh, Mr. Jeorge Wilson Kingson travelled to Malaysia and visited the University, the Chief Operating Officer, (COO) of QI University, Mr. Nicholas Goh, explained to him and a number of journalists from West Africa that the University was committed to changing the narratives around academia and industry and how the former is detached from the latter. He said: ” We are training students to be ready for the job market and to be change agents. The world is changing and the marketplace is becoming dynamic, we are churning out students that have the right attitude, the right academic knowledge and the right practical hands-on skills and experience to fit the requirements of the job market and even create their own employments in some cases.”

According to Mr. Goh, the university’s mission is to become a globally recognized research institution delivering quality programs and interdisciplinary research of international standing.

QIU offers various foundation, degree and postgraduate courses in fields including, among others, Medicine & Surgery, Pharmacy, Business Management, Actuarial Sciences, Culinary Arts, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Technology, Hotel Management, Information Technology, Accountancy, Psychology, Mass Communication, Corporate Communications, Teaching English as a Second Language, Early Childhood Education, Computer Science, Finance, Hospitality Management, Mechatronics Engineering, Biotechnology, Special Needs Education, Information Technology.

The University has experienced, passionate and industry-savvy educators from Malaysia and abroad. The university provides quality academic courses while maintaining affordability. It has an international advisory board comprising renowned academicians and prominent public and business figures.

Mr. Goh used the opportunity to dispel some misinformation being propagated by a few criminal elements and reiterated that the school does not offer full -time online courses, it does not solicit for monies from individuals and does not grant scholarships arbitrarily to students, except for academic brilliance. He said such scholarships are communicated from official university sources and not from sources with dubious and suspicious online features, such as those who send email with public domains and not customised education-related domains like ‘edu.my’

He warned that the public should be wary of such fraudsters, who try to prey on or impersonate the excellent and impressive records of outstanding universities such as QI University.
