National Prophetic and Apostolic Churches Council begs for Owusu Bempah’s release from Police Custody

Chairman of the National Prophetic and Apostolic Churches Council of Ghana (NPACC), Archbishop-elect Dr. Salifu Amoako, who is also the Founder of Alive Chapel International (ACI), is pleading with the government and the Courts to temper justice with mercy and grant bail to Reverend Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah.

Reverend Owusu Bempah is the founder of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International and the Co-chairman of NPACC.

Salifu Amoako said the bail is critically necessary at this time because of the deteriorating health of Rev Owusu Bempah who was picked up from church by the police on Sunday and remanded in police custody on Monday by an Accra High Court. Later reports suggested he was rushed to the police hospital later that evening after it emerged that his deteriorating health was getting worse.

Addressing a press conference at his church premises in Accra on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, the Archbishop-elect said Rev. Owusu Bempah is a widely known personality in this country who would not run away when granted bail.

“He is a big personality and has made a lot of impact on this country. He has a church. Also, he is a leading member of our Council, he is a Man-of-God, and he is a leader, that is why we are pleading for him,” he stated.

He told GhanaNews TV in an interview on the sidelines of the press conference that the plea is specifically for the government, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Courts to “give our brother a bail so he can come home to prepare himself while the investigation goes on.

According to him, “Rev Owusu Bempah is not going anywhere, because he has made a lot of impact in this country and he has a big church and also he is part of us. So we are pleading with the honorable Court to grant him access to bail so that he can also come home. So we are just pleading with the government and also with the court that if they can grant him bail we will be happy as NPACC.

“So that is our petition to the court, that they should grant him bail for us so that he can come home and be with his family.

All we are saying is that “Let’s just allow the police to do their work while he is on bail,”

He said the Council is ready to ensure that Rev. Owusu Bempah complies with all bail conditions and report appropriately when he has to.

The Council believes that the police can carry out their investigations even when the prophet is on bail.

Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, was remanded into police custody on Monday after he was charged for threatening death. Four others people believed to be members of his church, namely  Mensah Ofori, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum were together charged with six counts.

They have all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them for threatening to kill Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

While Rev Bempah and Ofori were charged with two counts of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death, the remaining three were also charged with assault on a public officer.

The court refused to grant the plea of their lawyer Garry Nimako Marfo for bail. Prosecution pleaded that two of the police officers they assaulted are still on admission at the hospital.

The court presided over by Her Honour Afia Owusua Appiah dismissed the application for bail to allow prosecution enough time to investigate the case since they were only arrested on Sunday.

The next court day for the case is September 20.
