Rawlings never flew under the Adomi Bridge – Air Commodore Pumpumi

A 1979 headline story indicating that former Ghanaian president Jerry John Rawlings flew a helicopter under the Adomi Bridge in the Eastern region has been disputed by Air Commodore Kwame Pumpumi.

According to the retired security capo, there is no truth in the story and that, it is even not possible to fly under such a bridge.

Rawlings is believed to have flown under the bridge at Atimpoku, an incident many described as outstanding.

Speaking to Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Accra-based Dadi FM morning show, Air Commodore Pumpumi, who was a former teacher of former President Rawlings, has, however, debunked the story that has been circulating over the past decades.

Rawlings worked as a pilot with the Ghana Armed Forces before staging a coup in 1979 and later in 1981.

He later became a democratic leader after the 1992 elections and ruled till January 2001 when he handed over power John Kufuor.
