A Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, has backed the ‘Yes’ votes and called on other Ghananians to do same on December 17, 2019 to give proper meaning to Ghana’s democracy.
According to him, he is backing the ‘Yes’ vote because “Yes vote is made for us to put into practice what we’ve run away from over the years and we’ve been pretending all along and burying our heads in deceit”
Kpemka who is also the Honourable Member of Parliament for the Tempani constituency revealed that local level election has been secretly and sometimes openly politicized in the past.
In an interview on the ongoing debate, Mr. Kpemka maintained the point that, “even though we say that local election is non partisan, parties overtly or covertly support individual campaign to win local elections at the local level.
“So what, why should we be pretending as if there is something new that is about to happen”.
He said, the only thing Ghananians are going for on 17th is to practicalize what they are already doing secretly and sometimes openly.
The MP, dismissed claims that electing MMDCEs on political party lines will deepen the political polarization in the country.
