REFERENDUM: Discipline biased Bossman Asare for his Attempts to Influence Votes – YoFAG

The Youth for Accountable Governance (YoFAG) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to take action against one of its deputy Commissioners, Dr Bossman Asare, for allegedly attempting to influence “Yes” votes in the imminent referendum on December 17.

YoFAG asserted that the “unprofessional” conduct of Dr Bossman is raising suspicions that the the “Jean Mensah-led EC is bent on skewing the referendum in favor of YES votes…”

In a press statement released today, and signed by the Communications directorate of YoFAG and copied to ghananewsonline.com.gh, YoFAG argued that, the EC authorities are being unfair in overseeing the referendum process since its members, particularly Dr Bossman, is “openly canvassing for YES votes ahead of the December 17 referendum”.

The group alleged that, the actions of some members of the EC is pointing to the fact that the body is possibly siding with some authorities in passing the proposed amendment.

This, according to YoFAG is unfair to the “majority of Ghanaians, including national house of chiefs [who] have kicked against the introduction of partisan politics to local governance system”.

YoFAG want the EC to disassociate itself from Dr Bossman’s actions and immediately force him to stop tempering with the referendum process.

“In order to restore in the processes leading to the referendum, the EC should, as a matter of urgency disassociate itself from the conduct of Dr Asare and institute actions against him. More importantly, recuse him from leading the referendum., failure of which the EC must ask him to step aside,” statement noted.

They stated that, they would be using other legitimate means to resolve the matter should the EC fail to meet their demands.
