As part of the government’s initiative of ensuring good sanitation in the country, the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has on behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of a solid and liquid waste plant at a cost of €20 million at Gbalahi in the Northern region.
Work on the solid waste plant which has already begun is expected to be completed within four months while the liquid waste facility would be ready in twelve months.
The minister said the project would ensure the continuous reign of peace in Dagbon and the tackling of sanitation problems in the region.
According to him, the completion of the projects would not only improve sanitation but equally enhance the cleanliness in the region, adding that, it would further draw them closer to their Maker.
“Poor sanitation goes with loads of health-related problems and so, this gives the people in the region the opportunity to employ preventive measures to avoid being hit with diseases,” he stated.
The minister hinted that part of the waste products would be recycled into compost and fertilizers for farmers to ensure abundant harvest under the “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative.

Mr Saeed pledged the government’s commitment to continuously partner with the private sector to tackle sanitation problems in the country.
Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Florence Larbi, assured that the existence of the plant would help in the recycling of plastic waste.
“We as the leading waste management company in Ghana and other parts of Africa will continue to contribute our quota to make the vision of the President come to reality,” she said.
