A group calling itself Center for Democratic and Accountable Governance (CEDAG) is demanding the removal from office, a Deputy Commissioner of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare.

The group has thus petitioned President Akufo-Addo to cause full-scale investigations into allegations of misconduct and abuse of office leveled against the former University of Ghana lecturer.

The group accused Dr. Asare of compromising the independence and the neutrality of the commission by openly campaigning for a ‘Yes-Vote’ ahead of the recently aborted referendum which was meant to decide on an amendment of Article 55(3) of the Constitution —to enable political parties to sponsor candidates during local level elections.

“It is, highly, reprehensible, the conduct of the Deputy Chairperson, Dr. Bossman Asare, who heads and oversees the elections and the electoral process of our country, to take sides and openly campaign in favour of a moiety of the opposing groups,” parts of the petition read.

This conduct and some others, according to the group should not be countenanced, a reason the group is asking President Akufo-Addo to “remove Dr. Bossman Asare from office as Deputy Commissioner to restore the confidence and to safeguard our democracy and the peace of the country.”
