Residents of Armaahman in the Ga South District of the Greater Accra Region are living in fear following a series of alleged violent attacks by land guards, which they claim have been carried out with the backing of uniformed police officers. The ongoing land dispute between Armaahman and Ashifla has taken a dangerous turn, with victims accusing the police of siding with powerful land interests rather than protecting the community.
At the center of the controversy is Nii Armaah Kwafio II, Chief of Armaahman and Acting President of Ngleshie Alata, who has called on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to intervene and investigate the role of security personnel in the attacks. Speaking at a press conference, he alleged that the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Mr. Arhin, has repeatedly deployed officers alongside land guards to intimidate and brutalize his people.

“This is not the first time we are experiencing this,” Nii Armaah Kwafio II stated. He referenced a previous case where police-backed land guards stormed the James Town Traditional Council, leading to the tragic death of the Ngleshie Alata Chief Priest. He also lamented that despite a court ruling in favor of his family earlier this year, attacks have continued, with one of his own children disappearing after visiting the disputed land.

Residents recount harrowing experiences of being beaten, threatened, and in some cases, forcefully removed from their homes. Many say they have lost faith in law enforcement, accusing officers of standing by as land guards unleash terror, only to later transport victims to a nearby clinic rather than making arrests.

With tensions rising, Nii Armaah Kwafio II has warned that if authorities fail to act, the people of Armaahman may have no choice but to defend themselves. “We do not want violence, but we will not sit idly by while our people are attacked,” he said.
Community members are calling on the IGP to ensure justice and hold those responsible accountable before the situation escalates further. “If the police are truly here to protect us, then let them prove it,” a distressed resident remarked.
The people of Armaahman say they want nothing more than peace—but only if it comes with justice.
