Residents Stage Vigil Over Dumsor in Kumasi

“The issue in the country now is the erratic power supply- dumsor. What is going on in the country in the last six or seven months now has not been good for us doing business in the country. What we are telling Nana Akufo-Addo is that we need power.”

A vigil took place last night in Kumasi in protest to the erratic power situation witnessed in parts of the country recently.

The protesters who included traders and some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held onto their placards with various inscriptions registering their displeasure at the developments as well as lighted candles along the streets.

A large banner that was displayed by the protesters indicated the majority of them were Kumasi central market traders.

The event on April 17, 2024, witnessed a massive turnout.

Speaking to the media, Regional Secretary of NDC, Frank Amoakohene, condemned the Minister for Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s apparent disregard and insensitivity to the plights of the suffering Ghanaians.

“The worst thing is that we don’t even know when the lights will go off and the Energy Minister is telling us to publish our own timetable. The youth of Ashanti Region is out here to publish our own timetable. The first day of the dumsor is Akufo-Addo’s home. The second day of dumsor would be Bawumia’s home. The third day would be Napo’s home. They should turn off their lights and go through what we go through in our workplaces and homes.”

Another decried the negative toll the erratic power situation is taking on businesses.

“The issue in the country now is the erratic power supply- dumsor. What is going on in the country in the last six or seven months now has not been good for us doing business in the country. What we are telling Nana Akufo-Addo is that we need power.”
