He added that he is convinced the issue is as a result of debts owed

The minority in parliament had earlier revealed that the government had failed to pay debts owed to power producers

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has argued that the recent power outages are as a result of financial challenges.

Speaking on Adom TV’s show, ‘Badwam’, he called on the minister of energy, Peter Amewu, to speak the truth about Ghana’s current energy crises.

Agyapong stated that the power crises is very likely a financial problem, and not one of a technical nature.

His comments follow earlier remarks by the minority in parliament, with regard to the crises.

The minority reportedly accused the government of failing to pay debts owed the power producers, resulting in the power outages.

Amewu, together with the personnel from the Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO), stated that the claims were untrue.

Although he admitted that there still remains debts to be settled, he denied it was the reason for the outages.

Agyapong meanwhile opined that the NPP had run out of excuses and could no longer blame the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the situation.
