Review Existing E-Levy Module – Mobile Money Agents Association tells Government
Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAAG) has called on the government to engage in a broad and effective bottom-top consultative approach to effectively mobilize taxes that support economic growth and development.
The Association also recommended a revision of the existing E-Ley module.
The calls follow a post E-Levy Survey/Research conducted by the Association. A 16 page document released by the association and cited by Ghananewsonline.com.gh, said the “government should reduce the current rate, modify the exemptions on transactions and the daily threshold to ease the negative impact on consumers – government should adopt proactive ways of engaging key stakeholders when introducing new policies”.
The research according to the document was supported by 69% and 66% of respondents that believed that the E-Levy in its current state will collapse the industry and expect the government to completely repeal and review the current tax policy respectively. It took into account some factors including population of vendors, region of operation, business operation environment, impact of cash-in commissions, impact of cash-out commission, impact of return on investment, among others.
