Rice importer, Sucryza to mill and package local rice next year

Sucryza Distributors Limited, marketers of Feliz Familia, Happy Family and Diora rice are set to unveil a new batch of local rice products in the first quarter of 2020.

This decision is to promote the patronization and consumption of locally grown rice and the reduction in the volumes of rice imported unto the local market.
Country Director of Sucryza Distributors Limited, Nabin Pandey, made this revelation at an award ceremony held in Accra to reward their distributors, in Accra on Saturday.
According to him, the clamour for more locally produced rice had necessitated the move to produce this new brand of rice, which would be called the “Happy Family Ghana Rice.”
He disclosed that it would be launched in the last week of December. Under the Happy Family will be   brands such as Diora Thai Homme Mali, Diora Mini Broken, Diora Jasmine Viet and Diora Pakistan 5% white rice which would all come in 5kg packs.
He said, “We have been on the forefront as far as the promotion that’s going on for the Ghana rice. However, let me be very honest with you.  There is a big gap between the imported rice and the Ghana rice. There’s a huge difference, but the difference is going to be minimized. If you ask me the local rice is very expensive and the imported rice is very cheap.”
“My management team was in the country last week of November. They have visited the factories, the rice mills, and we’ve had a discussion with them. Unlike in Vietnam which produces rice three times a year, Ghana hardly produces even once in a year. That technology, not now, but maybe in the future is going to come so that it will help the millers as well as the farmers.”
He was hopeful that from next year, farmers in Ghana would be able to produce rice at least twice a year once new production technology and seeds are brought in from Vietnam and other rice-producing classes.
“We are hopeful that Ghana rice can be promoted. There is a demand for imported rice but with the initiative by the government, Ghana rice will take centre stage.”
Sucryza on Saturday rewarded its distributors from around the country for their contribution to the continued success of their operation in the country.
