What’s keeping Adwoa Safo away from Dome-Kwabenya NPP campaign?

With less than 72 hours to the 2020 polls, the electorates of Dome-Kwabenya are worryingly asking the whereabouts of their Member of Parliament (MP).

Uncharacteristic of her, the bubbly and highly vocal Sarah Adwoa Safo, has not been seen or heard on the campaign trail this election year.

The silence and absence of the Deputy Marjory Leader, who doubles as the Minister of Procurement in the Akufo-Addo government from public view, has left room for wild speculations and suspicions.

While, many suspect she is unwell, others claim she is heavily pregnant and expecting her third child, but her first from her marriage with Hanny Moutsiseb, hence unable to campaign.

Adwoa Safo, already has two kids with Kennedy Agyapong her colleague NPP MP for Assin Central in the Central Region.

The Herald’s sources in Parliament, cannot remember the last time she was in the House to take part in Parliamentary business for and on behalf of her constituents.

Dome-Kwabenya, is one of the stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) but strangely, it has seen no major activity since the incumbent lawmaker, defeated her bitterest rival, Mike Ocquare jr, Ghana’s Commissioner to India, many months ago in the NPP Constituency primary.

More interesting is the fact that the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, who has been to every Constituency and introduced the party’s parliamentary candidates to the electorates, has persistently skipped the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, thus compounding the fears of the NPP supporters, as well as voters there.

On Thursday, December 3, 2020, there was a late night event by the NPP in the Constituency, where all private school teachers within the Dome- Kwabenya were invited.

The venue of the event was the house of Adwoa Safo, but to the shock of many, she was absent, heightening the speculations that she has travelled abroad with her husband to give birth.

The Education Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, addressed the teachers numbering about a 1000.

The Herald, was informed that the Education Minister, alias NAPO, who is struggling to hold his Manhyia South Constituency together, rudely told the teachers that, they were not paying SSNIT and tax, hence cannot be offered any COVID relief packages.

“Every teacher present was very angry with what he said because, Private school teachers pay SSNIT and tax every month, so didn’t understand why a whole minister should say that”.

“In fact, it was not easy yesterday. The meeting couldn’t end as planned because, the teachers started chanting: two sure, two sure, two sure throughout”.

The event and the comments of the Education Minister, has since left a bitter taste in the mouth of the NPP Elephant family as to how to remedy the problem; the absence of their MP and the negative remarks of NAPO, would likely to cause them some votes.

Videos of the event saw many of the teachers angry, cursing, insulting and threatening not to vote.

For now, it appears unless Sarah Adwoa Safo, comes out whether well or unwell, whether pregnant or not to salvage the situation, or else…….
