The area had been without a Chief and Queen mother for centuries.

The three have successfully gone through all the necessary rites of passage according to Anlo traditions and customs befitting their new position and status.

In an interview on the sidelines of the colorful ceremony, the newly installed Chief said the world has come to a stage where traditional authorities must wage a relentless economic war on poverty, hunger and disease.

He said the Chieftaincy institution should be seen as playing a complimentary role in the socio-economic transformation of society.

“Not only does Chieftaincy serve as a repository of culture and tradition, but is also a major stakeholder in the shaping of national discourses and the settlement of disputes between aggrieved members of society, as well as the maintenance of peace and stability which are necessary for national development,” Torgbi Agbelorm-Agbotokor said.

The new Chief implored all traditional leaders to exhibit exemplary leadership qualities worth emulating by the younger generation who would be taking up the mantle of leadership “when we are no more.”

“The future of our children lies in our hands – we must see Salo as our only home where we can create sustainable wealth for our families – We shall be doomed if we do not change our attitude to doing things in this new era – I implore all traditional leaders under the Anlo Traditional Council and the entire Volta region, to set an example for the youth to follow, if we are to see a better and prosperous future for our communities,” he said.

Torgbi Agbelorm-Agbotokor said he was prepared to welcome everyone, especially the youth on board, and to harness all resources, human and material available toward the forward march of the area.

The newly installed Queen mother, Mama Amegbor Agbotokor II, for her part called for the prioritizing of the education of girls, who she said needed the support and guidance from responsible adults in order to become useful adults who would contribute meaningfully to nation building.

The young Mama Amegbor Agbotokor who is an ICT coordinator and expert, emphasized the need for the extension of ICT training to all schools across the country as the world economy is now propelled by ICT.

She called on girls and young women to seek advice and guidance from responsible adults and not from social media which sometimes had dire consequences on their growth and development.

Agbotadua Dzreke promised to work hand -in hand with the new Chief and Queen mother as well as all elders of Salo in order to ensure that the people of the area take their rightful place in the affairs of Anlo land.
