Sam Jonah to launch GJA’s 75th Anniversary celebrations

The National Executive of the GJA extends a warm invitation to all members and supporters of the Association to join in commemorating this milestone, which marks three-quarters of a century of journalistic excellence in Ghana.

Esteemed business leader Sir Sam Jonah KBE, OSG, is set to launch the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) 75th Anniversary on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The prestigious event will take place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, starting at 1 PM.

The ceremony promises to be a landmark event with Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, former Chairman of the National Media Commission, presiding as the chair.

A statement by the GJA indicates that the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who also currently oversees the Information Ministry, will grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour.

The gathering will bring together a diverse group of attendees, including media professionals, leaders of media institutions, and academia from the fields of journalism and communication.

Students from various journalism and communication training institutions are also expected to participate, adding vibrancy to the celebration.

Sir Sam Jonah will deliver a keynote address that highlights the GJA’s journey of excellence over the past 75 years and will also unveil a specially designed logo for the anniversary.

This address will set the tone for a year-long celebration under the theme “75 Years of Excellence in Journalism: Past, present, and the Future.”

GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, will speak about the anniversary theme, emphasizing the importance of unity and pride among the members.

Godwin Avenorgbo, Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Planning Committee, will outline the extensive activities planned for the year, culminating in the 28th GJA Media Awards in September 2024.

According to the GJA, The anniversary celebrations are not just confined to the capital but will spread across various regions to ensure a national footprint, reflecting the Association’s inclusive spirit.
