But the NLA boss, while appreciating the good faith behind the action of the youth, urges the entire party in the constituency to support those in authority presently.

Even before the party considers plans towards its internal elections, a youth group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akwapim North Constituency of the Eastern Region, has subtly ‘launched’ the parliamentary bid of Sammy Awuku, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The group, said to be rooting for Mr Awuku as their preferred representative in Parliament for a very long time now, thus surprised many on Saturday after it has erected a giant billboard, bearing the life-size picture of the former NPP Youth Organizer.

The billboard, mounted at a strategic location reads: “Not relying currently on the achievements of the past, we press on to greater heights by pushing over when to do better for God and Country. We are full of optimism for the year 2022 & we are confident it will be our best year yet”.

Though Mr Awuku has been distancing himself from the move and has since appealed to the youth group to pull down the billboard, The Anchor has gathered, the group’s move was a strategic one.

This paper is informed that, the emergence of the billboard in the constituency on Saturday, has been causing panic in the camp of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei.

Ms Asiamah Adjei who got married to a former Presidential Staffer and Secretary to the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) Charles Bissiw last year, delivered in Texas in the United States of America (USA).

Inside the Akwapim North constituency, the MP who is also a deputy minister for Trade and Industry, is seen as a non-performer even though she retained the seat in the last elections.

But the NLA boss, while appreciating the good faith behind the action of the youth, urges the entire party in the constituency to support those in authority presently.

Mr Awuku who expressed his appreciation to the group, suggests the gesture was ill-timed and, could breed unnecessary tension.

“Thanks to the many enthusiastic youths who decided to design, print, and erect this giant billboard in the Akwapim North Constituency. I appreciate your kind heart but definitely not a good time to do this, as it sends a wrong signal and breeds unnecessary tension,” the former National Organizer of the NPP stated in a Facebook post sighted by The Anchor.

He added; “Let’s support those currently in authority to deliver for our collective good.

Timing is bad and optics not a pleasant one… I know out of good faith … You will do the needful before close of day”.
