NDC spokesman, Sammy Gyamfi, says he will not seek reelection as National Communications Officer.

Per the party’s Constitution, the NDC will elect a fresh crop of leaders in the 2026 calendar — but according to the new Goldbod CEO, he won’t chase another mandate at the end of his tenure.

“… I’ll not be able to run for the position …”, he said in an interview on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to Citi FM’s Bernard Avle, Sammy explained that his current priority is to ensure the smooth running of the newly created GoldBod, adding that he’ll continue to communicate for the NDC.

According to him, he made a promise to the President to still communicate for the party, and therefore his latest job won’t obstruct that commitment.

The former KNUST alumni came to limelight during the party’s recent spell in opposition. Emerging as a youth, Sammy endeared himself to the party as a deft speaker and a nemesis to the ruling NPP.

Combining wit and fine logic, he soon dominated the headlines and became a treasured asset in the party’s communication setup.

However despite his popularity, his next path remains blank — even thought some faint rumours have linked him to taking over as the next General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress.

Meanwhile, Sammy’s Deputy, Malik Basintale, is among a list of several youngsters who have been tipped to vie for the National Youth Organiser portfolio in next year’s race, including Amorse Amos and Bridget Bonnie — a contest which could be tagged ‘AA vs BB’.

Though unconfirmed, sources say Malik is lacing his boot to lead the party’s youth front, despite calls for him to replace Sammy Gyamfi as a natural successor, given the mentorship and tutelage he has received.

More soon.
