In a strong-worded statement, The New Ghana, an advocacy group led by President Yahaya Alhassan, has called on the management of celebrated Ghanaian musician Sarkodie (Michael Owusu Addo) to cease their “comic and baseless attempts” to justify his no-performance at the Africa Fan Zone event in France. The group has also demanded a public apology to actress Yvonne Nelson and the people of Krobo, whom they believe have been disrespected by the rapper’s recent actions and words.

According to Alhassan, musicians like Sarkodie are highly revered by the youth and their behavior significantly influences their followers. As such, he emphasized that the words and actions of these celebrities should reflect decency, decorum, and respect, in line with their roles as societal role models.

“The world has responded with a profound statement for women advocacy, particularly in African communities striving for gender equality and respect for women,” Alhassan stated, referencing the broader implications of Sarkodie’s actions.

The New Ghana sees the rapper’s removal from the platform in France as a pivotal moment, hoping it serves as a “learning curve” for both up-and-coming musicians and the general public.

The statement ended with a stern warning that if Sarkodie’s team fails to issue the requested apology, The New Ghana will be “compelled to act accordingly.”

This development comes amid growing conversations around the responsibility of public figures in upholding societal values, especially concerning issues of gender equality and the respectful treatment of women in Ghana and across Africa.
