Scholarship application to the Scholarships Secretariat will from March this year go digital. Applicants will, therefore, have the opportunity to access various scholarship schemes online when the secretariat rolls out its online scholarship process.
Applicants will then be taken through an online aptitude test in other to qualify for the scholarships.
This is according to the Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang. Speaking at the Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) conference in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Mr. Agyemang explained that the application process for the 2020/2021 academic year would be opened in March by which time the secretariat would have engaged all stakeholders and explained all the processes to them against September 2020/2021 academic year. He stated that applicants will not have to write to the secretariat again for scholarship but will apply online adding that “very soon we will be announcing the online portals.”
He stated that applicants who pass through the online application successfully would be made to face a District Scholarship Review committee who would process the application. “As soon as you pass the aptitude test you will receive a notification which will direct you to proceed to the district you selected when you were doing your application to appear before the District Scholarship Review Committee. And that is where there will be a timeline of 7 days to process your application,” he explained.
Improvement
He stated that the state of the secretariat under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration has improved significantly. According to him, the Secretariat initially had just one computer and a printer saying that has changed with each office now having its own computer and printer to ease their work.
Mr. Agyemang added that the decentralization of scholarship introduced by the President last year had students irrespective of their background getting funding to study adding over 32,000 students across the various districts benefitted from the new initiative.
PENSA at 40 conference
The Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) of the Church of Pentecost held its annual convention at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, chairman of the Church of Pentecost, speaking at the convention called on Christians to embrace the values and principles of Christ.
The chairman spoke about an initiative launched by the church known as ‘vision 2023’ which is meant to get the youth of the church to take up leadership roles in various institutions.
