…Interior Minister, Comptroller Accused
Tension is brewing within the rank and file of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with some top officers calling for the immediate interdiction of the Comptroller-General of the GIS, Kwame Ansoa Takyi.
What our investigation has established is that, indeed there is some form of recruitment and training of recruits currently underway at the Asin Fosu-based GIS training school.
This development, has angered highly-placed activists of the ruling NPP, who are miffed about the fact that, the exercise was not advertised as has always been the case with the Service and its recruitment exercises.
This, The New Independent has also learnt, has divided the top brass of the Service, as they also claim the exercise was being done without their involvement and at their blind side.
Deep throat sources close to the GIS hinted that, 1,500 young men and women are being recruited at the blind side of the law and same, without the knowledge of the President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The above, has sparked some form of disagreement and controversy amongst officers, who are mandated to provide security at our borders.
They again hinted that, Comptroller-General of the GIS, Kwame Asua Takyi, has currently collapsed some existing offices at the GIS headquarters to establish a clinic for his parochial interest.
Again The New Independent has discovered that, the said established GIS clinic was handed over to owners of St John Hospital to manage without any due process.
This paper can report without the mincing of words that, St John Hospital belongs to the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore Constituency, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie.
The above has therefore led to the development of cracks in the entire service with officers calling for investigations into the development.
Meanwhile, The New Independent has learnt that, 80% of the recruits, who are benefiting from this rather dangerous move by the duo, are allegedly coming from the Nandom Constituency, where the Interior Minister is a Member of Parliament.
Hon. Ambrose Dery and the Comptroller-General could not be reached for their comments but a highly-placed source close to the Public Affairs Department, speaking to the issue of recruitment, simple said, “it is not true that, we are undertaking any recruitment exercise.”
