Security Cooperation in the Sahel and West Africa is My Priority-Mahama

President John Mahama has reiterated his avowed commitment to security and peace in the Sahel and West Africa.

President Mahama made the statement when he paid a visit to President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland and Head of State of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.

“Our discussions focused on enhancing security cooperation in the Sahel and West African region to combat terrorism, improved and unimpeded trade between our two countries, and strengthening bilateral ties”, Mr. Mahama stressed.

“…We also discussed the need for collaboration and recognition of the Alliance of Sahel States by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and a renewed commitment to fighting terrorism, which threatens not only the Sahel region but also countries further down towards the coast”.

President Mahama was accompanied by his Executive Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama, Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Mr. Stanislav Dogbe, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Madam Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Larry Gbevlo-Lartey – Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States.
