Controversial dancehall artiste, Charles “Shatta Wale” Nii Armah Mensah, has declared his support for the homosexual community in Ghana, urging homosexuals, lesbians, transgender and other queer sex practitioners (LGBTQ) to feel free and be what they please.

Mr. Wale, a man who has said in the past that he has been a pimp and bodyguard to prostitutes before, made his stand clear in a tweet.

“It’s a free world, and we have to know how to fight for our rights. I have fans who are lesbians and gays. I love them because recently, I was being styled by a gay person. So I will tell every lesbian and gay person to feel free,” Wale said.

The artiste also accused Ghanaians of hypocrisy saying they accept loans and grants from the West where gay is already legal and yet is allowing the passage of a Bill, (The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021) which will criminalize homosexuality in Ghana.

The Bill seeks to criminalize gay sex, promotion and funding of same in Ghana.

Shatta Wale’s incursion into the LGBTQI+ debate comes in the wake of revelations by Onua TV hots, Captain Smart that a powerful Gay Lobby has been secretly recruiting campaigners to advocate against the anti-gay Bill before Parliament.

According to Captain Smart, both he and arguably the lead advocate for the criminalization of LGBTQI+ activities in Ghana, Lawyer Foh Amoaning, have been secretly approached and propositioned to become a pro-gay activist.

And the gay lobby group had come to them bearing gifts – a whopping US$200,000 for each of them if they would have agreed to become advocates against the anti-gay Bill.

But Mr. Smart reveals he refused the offer to promote that, “stupid thing.”

“Lawyer Foh-Amoaning and I were handed proposals. They met the two of us at the same venue separately. They said that they like how I handle issues so they wanted me to take US$200,000 to advocate for LGBTQ. They also wanted me to recruit people to advocate for this stupid thing,” he said.

The presenter also alleged that many influential Ghanaians have been approached by the lobby group and that at least one female presenter in the country has accepted the cash and the challenge.

Smart also revealed that the controversial National Cathedral being built by President Akufo-Addo is being built with money from the LGBTQI+ community.

“I want to appeal to the President not to accept any funding from the LGBTQI community for the National Cathedral. It’s better we don’t build it at all than to use LGBTQ money,” the popular broadcaster said.

He added a curse to the request for good measure, “Anyone who tries to use LGBTQ+ money for the National Cathedral will suffer.”

President Akufo-Addo is strongly being linked to the gay lobby group’s influence. For instance, the architect of the National Cathedral, the UK-based David Adjaye is a strong gay advocate.

President Akufo-Addo’s good friend and personal lawyer, Akoto Ampaw is leading a group of 18 intellectuals as a pro-LGBTQ advocacy group. These intellectuals are believed to have succumbed to the money flung at them by the gay lobby group.

Incidentally, Shatta Wale is one of the artists close to Akufo-Addo’s Jubilee House. Wale had been recruited by President Akufo Addo’s cousin and chief advisor, Gabby Asare-Otchere Darko to act as an ambassador for the Akufo Addo campaign in 2020 with a reported GHC 2 million spending money.

Interestingly, Mr. Otchere-Darko has been vocal in his pro-LGBTQ support.

In the lead-up to the 2020 election, Mr. Wale went on the charge in the media, demanding that all Ghanaians re-elect Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections or incur his wrath.
