MCE for Nzema institutes “Operation visit every Kitchen” to retrieve dead Dolphins

The Nzema East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Frank Okpenyen, with support from the Food And Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Police, following media reports that fishmongers in Axim were preparing some of the dolphins washed ashore recently for sale,  is visiting every kitchen to retrieve the dead marine mammals.

Speaking in an interview with ghananewsonline.com.gh, Frank Okpenyen stated that the team found a basket full of the already smoked dolphins with about 20 others yet to be smoked.

They subsequently seized the dead sea mammals including the already smoked ones and buried them in a pit.

The MCE emphasized that he is working hard to retrieve all the dolphins that were washed ashore but taken home by the residents of the area for sale or consumption hence the need  to introduce the “OPERATION VISIT EVERY KITCHEN”  to ensure safety of the general public.

It is estimated that about 132 of the dead dolphins are still in the hands of some individuals while almost 30 of the  alive dolphins washed ashore were saved and returned into the sea.

Frank Okpenyen urged the general public to cooperate in retrieving the dead marine mammals to prevent the occurrence of any deadly disease.
