The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, this afternoon led a Parliamentary delegation to the residence of the late Hon. Joseph Henry Mensah to observe a one week customary rite with his family.
The delegation consisted of both Majority and the Minority Leaders, the 1st and 2nd Deputy Speakers, other deputy leaders on the Majority and Minority benches, a cross section of MPs from both sides of the House, the Clerk to Parliament and other Officers of the Parliamentary Service. The Parliamentary Press Corps also accompanied the delegation.
The veteran and seasoned Politician died a couple of weeks ago and as per the customs of the Akan people there is an observation of the One Week in honour of the deceased. It is the time the family and sympathisers gather to plan details of the funeral.
The Parliamentary delegation per custom presented an undisclosed amount of money and assorted drinks to the bereaved family who in turn expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture.
The Speaker, the Majority and Minority Leaders took turns to sign the book of condolence opened in honour of the late John Henry Mensah.
