Staff of ECG want Removal of their Managing Director

The senior and junior staff unions of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is calling for the immediate removal from office of the current Managing Director of the company (MD), Kwame Agyemang Badu.

In a resolution passed at a joint national executive committee meeting of both unions held at the ECG training center and cited by GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh, the workers accused their MD of his lack of vision for the company which according to them is evidenced by misplaced priorities leading to the unavailability of critical materials such as meters, service cables, conductors, prepaid vending accessories, maintenance equipment, among others.

This they claimed has caused delays in connecting and supplying clients who have paid for such services. The two unions also accused the MD of applying the limited resources available to the company on frivolous and capital intensive projects at a time when the company is cash strapped and is unable to meet it’s financial obligations to stakeholders.

They mentioned the constitution of staff canteens at the Asokwa district, Roman Ridge and the the construction of a new district office at Cape Coast where there is already enough unused office space.

These among other allegations necessitated their call for the immediate removal from office of Mr Agyemang-Badu to pave way for a new managing director as his continuous stay in office was adversely affecting the operations of the company they alleged.

A copy of the resolution has been sent to the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) of the TUC with an accompanying cover letter dated April, signed by the Union’s general secretary Michael A Nyantakyi and forwarded to the minister of Energy.
