STAR-Ghana Foundation has expressed the desire to support the upcoming general elections in Ghana this year. The company says it is ready to advocate for citizens participation in election activities through good governance.
It is for this reason that the Foundation has committed a sum of GH¢5,170,400 as part of its drive to engage Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and other related institutions in building their capacity to champion citizens’ involvement in governance activities at every stage of the country’s general elections.
Executive Director of Star-Ghana Foundation, Amidu Ibrahim-Tanko, made this known in a speech read on his behalf by the Vice Chair of the Governing Council, Dr. Charles Abugre, at the maiden edition of the Foundation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra.
“The Foundation has also received GH¢17,913,000 as grants from Christian Aid to support citizens and other bodies to engage the public on issues relating to duty bears and their stewardship over particular time frame towards their performance in office,” he stated.
Throwing more light on the Foundation’s aims and objectives, the Executive Director said the Foundation will make inputs in election activities of the country, adding that the gesture falls in line with the core mandate of STAR-Ghana.
He hinted that, the Foundation is exploring other areas to generate additional funding for its operations.
The Foundation is a non-profit organization geared towards building good governance and enhancing democracy in Ghana.
