Statement by Greater Accra NDC Women’s Wing on the Occasion of Eid El Fitr

On behalf of the Greater Accra Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and on my own behalf, I would like to extend our warmest wishes to Muslims in the Region and around the country celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.

As Muslims mark the end of the month of Ramadan, they are reminded that Ramadan is a time to reflect spiritually, build communally, and aid those in need. While Eid marks the end of Ramadan, it marks a new beginning for each individual for which reason to celebrate and express gratitude on this holiday.

For Muslims, the Eid is marked with the call to prayer echoing through cities and towns across the globe. Millions of people head to local mosques for special Eid prayers followed by festive gatherings, gift exchanges, and feasts among friends, neighbours and families.

There is no denying the fact that, the COVID-19 has taken away tthe vibrant images we see in Ghana and from around the world capturing the spirit and excitement of Eid – colourful dresses or white garments decorating the masses of people standing in lines for prayers.

Notable usual side traction during this period are the intricate henna designs painted on hands of young girls and women, and an abundance of delectable foods and aromatic cuisines.

The Eid National holiday which was instituted by the NDC led government under Former President Jerry John Rawlings, is a reminder to every Ghanaian of the importance of respecting those of all faiths and beliefs.

This and other holidays are an acknowledgement of the great diversity and inclusiveness that adds to the richness of our nation faith based and democratic dispensation.

The NDC women’s wing is proud to have a lot of inspiring old and young muslims women who are leading efforts for greater understanding and unity across diverse communities.

On this occasion, I urge Ghanaians of all faiths and beliefs to continue to stand together to protect our democracy and strengthen our country as a whole.

Once again, it is our hope today brings joy to your homes, both here in Greater Accra Region and around the country.

Eid Mubarak!

Happy Eid-Fitr
