Ewes in Sefwi have added their voice to the national call on the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government to stop the attacks on them in the Volta Region in particular and the entire country in general.
While describing these attacks as uncalled for, they intimated that they do not only feel intimidated and threatened, but also endangered “After all, we are all Ghanaians, so why these unwanted attacks?” they queried.
This came to light in the various interviews granted us by some members of the Ewe community in the Sefwi area.
They could not phantom how the NPP administration could target all Ewe speaking people as supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). A situation that has informed the NPP administration to perceive Ewe speaking people in the Volta Region as Togolese, for which reason it released security personnel to harass them during the just ended controversial voters registration exercise.
Claiming that they felt embattled, they urged also that as not all Ewes are NDC so also, not all Akan speaking people are NPP.
Kennedy Agyapong Stands Accused
According to them, these attacks have been premised on Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s infamous 2016 declaration that all Ewes in the Ashanti Region should be killed. They also condemned how the NPP administration could look on, better still condone such speech to perpetrate these attacks.
Our people must talk for us
The Ewe groups also expressed disquiet about the way their own people in government have kept quiet as they were subjected to such unwanted attacks. They maintained that it is only the unthoughtful one who would say that it is the turn of my friend and not me. Also, if one saw his neighbor’s beard on fire he had better dip his into water. They maintained further that whatever goes up, comes down and whatever has a beginning has an end.
They embattled lot called on their people in government to wake up from their sunbed and shine their eyes. As their brothers get persecuted unduly, where are the Tsikatas? They asked mournfully
The government must come in
All these notwithstanding, they called on the government to come in immediately and have something urgent done about this unfortunate situation since they are Ghanaians deserving the same constitutional protection as any other Ghanaian
