Stop extorting Money from Tenants and Landlords – Minister warns Rent Officers

A Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Freda Akosua Prempeh, has cautioned officers of the Rents Control Department to desist from extorting money from clients who patronize their services.

The Deputy Minister who doubles as the Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo region gave the caution in an exclusive interview with Today.

According to her, dozens of complaints come to her office on daily basis from both tenants and landlords concerning allegations of extortion and bribery from Rent Officers.

“My office has started doing some investigations into these complaints and will soon fish out the culprits,” she hinted.

“Let me assure you that we will never shield anyone who is found culpable. We will make sure that the laws of the land deals squarely with whoever it catches,” Prempeh stated, cautioning that “those who are engaged in this callous act should stop because I will soon zoom in on them like ‘Anas'” she warned.
