Stop Writing Misleading Scripts for President Akufo-Addo Muntaka tells Jubilee House Boys

Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has cautioned script writers of President Nana Akufo-Addo to stop writing scripts that often appear to mislead him.

He said in one of his recent addresses to the nation, President Akufo-Addo claimed Ghana was leading Africa in terms of testing citizens for the Coronavirus only to be exposed by a French News Agency that there are about four other countries ahead of Ghana.

Muntaka made the call in Parliament on Tuesday while contributing to a statement by the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu. The Minster was in the House to update the law makers on steps taken by the government to control the spread of Covid-19

A week after President Akufo-Addo announced Ghana’s robust health system to fight the COVID-19, with high speed test on the Africa continent, a French News Agency reported the contrary and provided a list of countries leading in the test.

This the Minority Chief Whip described as “unfortunate”, adding that the President’s script writers should spare the nation the needless self praises.

The Asawase lawmaker added that such self praises from the Presidency do not only tarnish the image of the country internationally but also shows how less serious the nation is in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.

He charged the government and its appointees to concentrate on fighting the disease rather than pretending to be demonstrating capability.

Muntaka also charged the Ministry of Health to come up with a comprehensive plan on how the nation intends to fight the diseases rather than the reactionary approach, stating that “we cannot continue to claim we are doing well when the number is still increasing.

“Others have been on lockdown for over 40 days, we went in for just three weeks and relaxed and claimed we are doing well.

“If we are doing well, why is the World Health Organisation (WHO) saying, Africa countries are doing little to fight the Coronavirus disease?” Muntaka quizzed.

Notwithstanding, Muntaka commended the Health workers in Ghana for the good work so far. He called on the government to ensure that all efforts and sacrifices of frontline health workers are recognized as promised by the President.
