The programme was organised by Superintendent of Prisons, Augustina Ama Boadu and Mr. Pius Ametepey, both of whom hail from Agomeda in collaboration with Agomeda-Hiomeh Development Union (ADU), a community-owned NGO in Agomeda.
The rationale behind the gesture, according to the two organizers, was to mobilize the aged in the town who make up about 30% of the population to educate them on some challenges and coping strategies of aging and also to refresh and give them a sense of belonging and hope during the yuletide.
The programme, which was the first of its kind saw close to 500 aged people, each of whom was presented with a package made up of rice, sugar, tin fish and soft drinks.
The Country Director of Sucryza Distributors Limited, Mr. Nabin Pandey, indicated his outfit was ready to support similar programmes such as medical screening, refreshments and entertainment for the aged in Agomeda intermittently.
Mr Pius Ametepey, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked Sucryza Distributors for being major sponsors of the programme.
He also thanked Ms. Abigail Campbell, Mrs. Monica Baaba Jones, Supt Rtd. Mrs. Victoria Alhassan and Ms. Chinenye Afonne who also supported the programme.
He appealed to all indigenes of Agomeda, both within and outside Ghana to come home to support ADU in its bid to implement programmes that aim to develop and transform the community to make it a better place for its people.
