Sunyani East MP Is Acting Speaker of Parliament

Citing Order 12 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, the Clerk called on leadership from both sides to nominate a candidate.

History was made in Parliament today as members of Parliament elected one of their colleagues to chair proceedings in the absence of the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and his two deputies, Joseph Osei Owusu and Andrew Asiamah Amoako, for the first time.

Citing Order 12 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, the Clerk called on leadership from both sides to nominate a candidate.

The Majority Chief Whip, Annor Dompreh, nominated the MP for Sunyani East, Akwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh, and was seconded by the Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agboza.

Upon assuming his seat as the presiding member of the house, Dormaa East Twum Barimah congratulated him, noting that it was a proud moment for people from the Bono Region.
