With days to go for the crucial New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates Conference to elect the party’s national executives, constituency executives of the party in the Brong-Ahafo Region have faulted their regional executives for throwing their weight behind Freddie Blay without their consent.
According to the constituency executives, the action by the regional executives is a recipe for division, since any of the candidates could win and would need the support of all party members.
Last week, the Brong-Ahafo Regional executives of the party pledged their votes to Mr. Freddie Blay, who is contesting the position of National Chairman.
Twenty-six, out of the 29 constituency chairmen in the region were also said to have thrown their weight behind him.
However, speaking on behalf of majority of the constituency executives, the Tano South Constituency Secretary of the party, Mr. Fred Ofosu Twum, said: “We, the constituency executives in the region, distance ourselves from the publicised endorsement of one of the candidates for the upcoming chairmanship race of the party.”
Mr. Ofosu Twum said: “We have taken this position because any one of the candidates who wins the election would require the total support of members of the party,” adding, “in the event that Freddy Blay does not win, how do we expect the winner to work smoothly with those who did not endorse him?”
The Constituency Secretary pointed out that here was the need for a fair playing field to ensure a successful conference.
