Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga, One of the Supreme Court judge nominees, who endorsed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during a durbar in the Volta region somewhere in January 2020 has apologised for his actions.
While addressing a durbar of of chiefs and people of Afajato South early this year, which had President Akufo-Addo in attendance, Justice Honyenuga was full of praise for the President. He rated the President high for the introduction of perceived developmental policies for the country.
“With the vision of the President and the gains made in his first term, Ghanaians may consider giving him another four years,” Justice Honyenuga said at the durbar.
His comment generated a lot of discussions on social media with a vas majority of the people criticizing his conduct. Many believed his ‘propaganda comments’ is what has earned him the nomination to the Supreme Court and not his competence.
Appearing before the Vetting Committee of Parliament on Monday, Justice Honyenuga rendered an apology to Ghanaians for endorsing President Akufo-Add. He said he was only reading a statement on behalf of the paramount chiefs of the Afajato South area. He said the statement was given to him by someone he could not recollect and that its content were details of contributions from the chiefs.
He stated that “We didn’t intend endorsing the president, our understanding was that we were wishing him well…this is what has been happening in this country for a very long time…on my part, if out of political dissatisfaction some people are unhappy with whatever I am supposed to have said then I am sorry”.
