Arsene Wenger hits out at Arsenal’s decision to sack Gunnersaurus
Arsene Wenger has hit out at Arsenal’s decision to sack club mascot Gunnersaurus, branding the move as “unjustifiable” and “incomprehensible”.
Long-time Arsenal fan Jerry Quy had been the man in the suit for 27 years before, in October, becoming one of 55 staff to be made redundant as the club cut costs.
The news came on the same day Arsenal paid £45million up front to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, and prompted outcast Mesut Ozil – who takes home around £350,000 a week and hasn’t played since March – to offer to pay Quy’s wages to bring him back on board.
Arsene Wenger has joined the chorus of backlash over the decision, telling So Foot that he took the news “badly”.
He said: “The decision was financially unjustifiable. I don’t know what got into them. has hit out at Arsenal’s decision to sack club mascot Gunnersaurus, branding the move as “unjustifiable” and “incomprehensible”.
