Afghan Taliban official claims they have captured Kabul and have taken control of Afghanistan after some two decades of sustained war with American troops.

The determined advance of the Taliban has reportedly forced Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani to flee the country. The United States has also been forced to evacuate its embassy in Kabul, in what appears to be America’s latest failure in its war against terror.

With the Taliban seizing control of Kabul, international political spheres fear that the terror group Al-Qaeda may be on the verge of a re-birth. Already, the Taliban has hinted at creating an Islamic State out of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has approved 1,000 more US troops into Afghanistan. This sums up to some 6,000 US troops that will be in the country soon.

Whatsup News gathered that the primary mission of these troops would be to secure Kabul’s international airport, which is the entry point for the troops and the exit point for the US embassy staff and Afghans who are leaving the country.

As of right now, there are approximately 3,000 US troops in Afghanistan. The remaining troops are en route or will be in the imminent future.

The US military will reportedly have the maximum capacity to move about 5,000 people per day out of Kabul international airport, though they are not able to move that number yet, the official said. They will reach that capacity “within days.”
