Technical university administrators in Ghana have announced a resumption of an indefinite strike, effective today, Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
The leadership of the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana(TUSAAG) said their action is in protest over unpaid allowances.
The administrators suspended strike action in October last year as it engaged stakeholders, including the National Council for Technical Education, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the National Labour Commission to resolve the impasse.
TUSAAG, however, accused the government of failing to comply with a December 31, 2019 deadline to pay monies to deserving Senior Administrators.
A statement signed on January 8, 2020, by the Association’s National President, Edem K. Honu said the National Labour Commission (NLC) urged all members to comply with the latest directive.
The university administrators say they will not go back to work until their demands are met.
TUSAAG joins their colleague technical university teachers who declared strike earlier this week.
It means students in these eight universities will bear the brunt as the development could jeopardize academic work.
