CEO of Telecel Group, Moh Damush confirmed Telecel’s commitment to Ghana, saying they plan to double the number of towers in Ghana within two years in a bid to compete with market leader, MTN. At the time of his statement, Vodafone Ghana had about 2,000 towers, compared to MTN’s 5,000.

Damush said Telecel also plans to provide rural areas with connectivity via satellites, adding that they intend to take full advantage of the new regulations in Ghana that allows Telecel to offer roaming on the MTN network while its network expansion is being carried out.

The 300 new 4G sites come to support the new 4G+ service that Vodafone recently deployed across the country.

Group COO, Malek Atrissi said “we are very thrilled to introduce 4G+ to our customers, offering them even faster speeds.”

This accomplishment is not a one-off event but rather a pivotal part of Telecel’s broader
strategic plan for sustained expansion across the nation.

“We have exceeded expectations in the rapid development of these sites, and this is only the beginning of our journey. Our combined vision is to continuously seek and seize opportunities that enrich the digital experience for Ghanaians. The future holds even greater promise.”

It was in February 2023 that the Telecel-Vodafone deal was approved. It has been eight months and the company has already added 300 new 4G sites to the network. The promise is to double the cell sites from 2,000 to 4,000 in two years.

“This network enhancement marks the beginning of a long journey. Telecel Group has set the wheels in motion for a series of further expansions aimed at continually amplifying the network’s reach and efficiency,” it assured Ghanaians.
